Aunt Dorothy’s Peanut BrittlePeanut Brittle

The story behind Aunt Dorothy’s Peanut Brittle began in Hamilton, Ohio back in the 1930′s. My Aunt Dorothy was a whiz in the kitchen making confectionery for her five children during the holiday seasons.

One of her favourite recipes was her delicious Peanut Brittle. It was a unique honeycomb that was light and airy, with fresh roasted peanuts to give it that fantastic flavour.

When her only son joined the United States Air Force, Dorothy couldn’t resist sending her son some of her Peanut Brittle in a Christmas package. As tradition had it, her son shared the box of Peanut Brittle around with the other servicemen. Soon there were calls from around the base for more of that delicious candy. Aunt Dorothy, not wanting to let the boys down, sent some 20 pounds off to Nebraska. Many of the fly boys took some of the candy with them on flights that went around the world, sharing this wonderful taste treat with others.

By the following Christmas, orders for Aunt Dorothy’s Peanut Brittle were flooding in from around the world. Soon Dorothy was producing hundreds of pounds of brittle for the Christmas season and sending them out to the far flung air force bases around the world.

In just a few short years my Aunt Dorothy was making over a tonne of Peanut Brittle, for the boys, from her kitchen in Hamilton every year. For 60 years Dorothy continued this tradition. Sadly a few years ago, Dorothy passed away. But not before passing on her secret recipe to me.

Now Australia has Aunt Dorothy’s homemade Peanut Brittle in Western Australia at Morris Lane Taffy’s. We only use the finest ingredients to make that world famous Peanut Brittle. That surely would have bought a smile to my affectionate Aunt Dorothy’s face.
